Ana C. Marques graduated in Materials Engineering (IST, 2000) and holds a Ph.D. in Materials Sci. & Eng. (IST, 2005) with a strong focus on sol-gel processing. She then worked as a Post-Doc at IST and Lehigh University (USA), before joining Dow Corning in Belgium, where she worked as an R&D Chemist for more than 3 years. She was the project leader of several R&D projects, aiming at product development (e.g. halogen-free flame retardant additives) and large-scale production. She joined Ynvisible S.A. as R&D Director in 2011 and Greenseal Research, Ltd. as R&D Coordinator in 2013.
She is based at IST, since 2017, as Assistant Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department, giving lectures of Polymeric Materials, Introduction to Materials Engineering and Development of New Products courses.
Her main current research interest is the development of eco-innovative materials, in particular of a Technology Platform on Microencapsulation (http://web.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/ana.marques/SiteTPMI/) and the tailoring of material structure by sol-gel, e.g. functional and sustainable microcapsules and microscaffolds (MICROSCAFS(R)), for high added value products. She has more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 15 patents.
