There are more geostatistics class videos available on YouTube: The theoretical lessons of an Advanced Geostatistics course, focusing on Spatial Uncertainty Modeling; A set of Mining Geostatistics lessons, with specific topics on mineral resource assessment, to complement the already existing Introduction to Geostatistics course on YouTube.
Advanced Geostatistics
In 2018, the DER took the initiative to make the theoretical lessons of the Geostatistics course available on the YouTube platform with public access. The class contents were transformed into short-duration videos and compiled into a “playlist” called “Introductory Geostatistics” on the “Amilcar Soares” channel, managed by the course instructor. For regular students of the two master’s programs, attending practical lessons, where they developed a project, was mandatory. This initiative proved very positive not only for students but also for CERENA researchers and PhD students whose research topics intersected with the video content.
Building on the experience of this initiative, the DER is now offering, on the same YouTube channel, videos from an advanced geostatistics course: the theoretical lessons of the “Spatial Uncertainty Modeling” course. These videos are grouped in the playlist “Advanced Geostatistics. Spatial Uncertainty Assessment.” For regular students of the two master’s programs, these lessons, just like the introductory course, do not replace the need for attending practical lessons and assessments.
This advanced geostatistics course focuses on a set of methodologies and stochastic simulation models of spatial phenomena, which are essential for analyzing uncertainty and risk in the exploration and assessment of mineral and energy resources, as well as risk assessment in environmental areas, such as contaminated sites management, groundwater, and air quality. These videos aim to provide theoretical support for master’s students, as well as serve as a resource for researchers involved in R&D activities related to spatial uncertainty and risk assessment.
Mining Geostatistics
This is a set of three lessons with specific topics related to the practice of geostatistics in mineral resource assessment. These topics complement the “Introduction to Geostatistics” course, focusing on the practice of Mining Geostatistics: “Estimation and Classification of Mineral Resources; Estimation with Geological Control; Support Effect and Recovery Functions; Information Effect and Recovery Functions.” These topics are compiled in three “Invited Lectures,” shared in the geostatistics course at Charles Sturt University, Australia, by Professor Ana Horta. These videos can be found on YouTube in the playlist “Mining Geostatistics” on the “Amilcar Soares” channel.
