Global Experts Gather in Lisbon for the 2024 IEEE Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine

Last week, around 400 attendees from across the globe gathered in Lisbon for the 2024 IEEE Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine. Held from 3 to 6 December at the Técnico Congress Centre, Alameda Campus, the conference focused on the theme “Bridging the Research and Sectoral Shores to Tackle Digital Transition Opportunities.” Organized by Politécnico de Portalegre, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), and Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente (CERENA), the event brought together experts from the biomedical, health informatics, and life sciences fields. Participants were welcomed by IST President Rogério Colaço.

An insightful workshop on Information Systems for Health Emergencies and Patient-Oriented Research featured sessions on key computational challenges in drug design, a web tool for immunity loss and vaccination by Prof. Miguel Casquilho, and advanced methodologies in information systems by Prof. João Miranda.

The success of the conference is to be attributed to the collaborative efforts of the organizing committee, including João Luís de Miranda, Helena Cameron, Cristina Dias, Maria José Varadinov, Henrique Matos, Miguel Casquilho, and Telma Henriques.
