CERENA researchers participate in outreach activities

During the month of June, CERENA researchers participated in outreach activities, taking science to younger students. On 2nd June, 2026, Maria de Lurdes Dinis and Pedro Meixedo went to Escola Didáxis, Cooperativa de Ensino, to talk about the Mining and Geo-environment Engineering course. In this seminar, the speakers highlighted the strategic role of this field for the sustainable management of natural resources. To highlight the practical applications of the course, some of the materials developed in the ValorWaste project were displayed.

On 11th June, 2026, Ricardo Araújo visited Escola Marquesa de Alorna, where he talked about the daily life of a Paleontologist with seventh-grade students. Ricardo explained where the passion for paleontology came from, his personal journey in the area, while engaging students with concepts of geology and disclosing information on some extinct species.

On 26th June, 2026, Leonardo Azevedo visited Escola Básica de Alenquer, where he talked with third- and fourth-grade students about the energy produced from georesources. In this session, the students learned how a geophysicist can study the interior of the Earth and how technology can improve mine exploration!
