Graduated in Mining Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 1993. Currently is Assistant Professor at IST. Received her PhD in 2002, at IST, on “The degradation of stone in historic buildings: the case of Lisbon Cathedral”. She has participated in several studies on conservation of Portuguese stone Cultural Heritage, namely the Lisbon Cathedral, the Jeronimos Monastery, the Roman Theatre of Lisbon, the Tower of Belem, the Main Church of Vouzela, the Thermal Hospital of Caldas da Rainha and others. She teaches some Courses and Master's graduate in Conservation and Restoration. She is member of The International Scientific Committee on Stone of International Council on Monuments and Sites. She is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in national and international journals and supervised several master and phD thesis on stone decay and cultural heritage. Her research interests concerns non-invasive diagnosis tools, water-rock interaction, microbe-mineral interaction.
