Delivery vehicles of therapeutic gasotransmitters NO and H2S based on nanoporous materials

About
New materials to store and release NO and H2S will be developed to deliver them at target sites in the human body for therapeutic action. By modifying nanoporous phases with appropriate polymer layers, new delivery vehicles will be obtained. The porous structure, chemical nature and external surface of the nanoporous materials will be optimized to assure a good storage capacity, the stability of the molecules inside the pores, a slow release of the gas molecules and excellent biocompatibility. The binding of the NO and H2S inside the pores will be understood by a combined spectroscopic and molecular modelling approaches. This will allow a rational design of the materials for storing NO and H2S, without promoting side reaction, assuring a good shelf life and minimizing contaminants. At the final stage, a proof-of-concept will be done to demonstrate the feasibility of the controlled release with the new delivery vehicles, by applying them in the control of some biological processes.
