Arsenic removal using “green” Nano Zero valent iron(Conference Paper)

Arsenic Research and Global Sustainability - Proceedings of the 6th International Congress on Arsenic in the Environment, AS 2016

Conference Paper

The research involved the production of different “green” nZVI using vegetable extracts, characterization of the texture of the nanoparticles using grain size distribution by laser diffraction, the study of the agglomeration and the role of surfactants, the characterization of the structure of nZVI by Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy and a study of the removal of As species (III and V) using the produced nZVI. The amorphous structure of the nZVI, coupled with a high content in carbon, probably of organic origin, creates a much lower capacity for As removal when compared to the one obtained by the usage of nZVI produced by the classical methods. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
